How MagGlass uses the camera, microphone, and network

This policy describes the current MagGlass apps for iPhone and Android.

Last updated: July 25, 2026

Summary

MagGlass does not require an account and does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking. It uses device camera and microphone access for its accessibility features.

Camera and text processing

The camera provides the magnified preview, barcode detection, and visible-text recognition. MagGlass does not upload camera images. Camera and OCR image processing occur on the device.

Microphone and speech recognition

The microphone is used to recognize voice commands. Recognition is handled by the operating system’s speech-recognition services and may use online processing according to the device, service, language, and platform settings.

Shopping Mode network access

When Shopping Mode detects a barcode, MagGlass uses an Internet connection to request matching product information from Open Food Facts. The request contains the detected barcode; no camera image is sent.

Photos access

On iPhone, add-only Photos permission may be requested when the user chooses to save a camera capture. MagGlass does not read or upload the photo library.

Preferences and diagnostics

Preferences are stored locally. Android keeps a bounded local diagnostic log that the user can choose to export and share; MagGlass does not send it automatically.

No advertising or tracking

The current apps do not include advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, account registration, or cross-app tracking.
